HST and Real Estate

Blog by Indranil Ghosh | October 22nd, 2010

Even though HST has been introduced a few months back, there is still quite a bit of confusion with its application on Real estate. In fact on a separate note the real estate industry is a little guilty of creating an urge for Buyers to hurry and Buy earlier this year before HST came into effect.

In reality HST does not apply to the purchase price of a resale home. It is only related to the Service related to this purchase, like Lawyer Fees and Real Estate Commission.

However HST is applied to the price of a new home from a builder.

When purchasing a home from a builder, be sure to find out whether HST is included or in addition to the sale price.
